About Beneteau

The story begins with Benjamin Bénéteau, who at 12 years old had a great interest in the sea and boats. The dream of building boats began in his best friend's shipyard. Not until 1879, Benjamin grew his shipyard on the Quai des Grenier. At this time, the boats used sails and were regularly used by fishermen, who competed daily for the best place in the harbour to sell their product. Therefore, the boat's performance was the key for shipbuilders and their innovation. In 1909, the motor began to gain popularity, and Benjamin built the first motorboat in the region. Without much success, Benjamin had to put his creation aside.

After the First World War, the shipyard was taken over by André Bénéteau, Benjamin's eldest son. In 1963, André introduced polyester as a new material for building fishing boats. In 1965, André and his brothers saw the potential of the sailboat market and started building three sailboats, a special order from three businessmen, which initiated them into the sailboat market.

It was not until the 1970s that they invested in a plant designed for the production of semi-industrial boats. A few years later, they would open their way to other countries thanks to First, a boat that captivated the Paris Boat Show. It was not until the 1990s that Beneteau began to acquire companies such as O'Hara and Jeanneau. These acquisitions gave birth to the Beneteau Group. During the 2000s, this group grew exponentially and opened new boat building plants. It is a company that has continued to grow and is a market leader.
