The sailing area met my expectations. Nice little harbors, very beautiful bays for swimming and anchoring.
Das Fahrgebiet hat meinen Vorstellungen entsprochen. Nette kleine Häfen, sehr schöne Buchten zum Baden und Ankern.

Distances between the islands are significant (between 25 and 40 minutes). The coasts of the islands are very arid.
Distances entre les îles importantes (entre 25 et 40 mn). Côtes des îles très arides.

Lots of great places to visit.. but very busy even at end of September either leave early in the morning and probably don't sail.. and get a spot. Alternatively leave later, enjoy the afternoon breeze but you have to get creative with the parking

We loved the southern Cyclades - we spent four out of our five nights very happily at anchor and our one night in port (Katapola on Amorgos) was great too. Particular restaurant highlights were Omega 3 on Sifnos (stunning food and location), and Youlaki on Amorgos. Our favourite anchorage, which we returned to for a second night, was on Livardi Bay on Schinoussa - the steep walk up to the village is well worth it for a lovely drink with gorgeous view of the bay at sunset, and three good food shops (we didn't eat in any restaurants there). Would definitely recommend this sailing area, but not for first-timers as it can be pretty windy and rough. We love fishing and were lucky enough to catch our first ever Mediterranean fish - a Bullet Tuna which was absolutely delicious!

The small town of Vonitsa in the Ambracian Gulf is really worth seeing and is particularly suitable for a stay on the day of return because Preveza is not far away. If there is a lot of wind, it will probably be rough outside the breakwater but not dangerous. We also liked the Ormus Vlychon bay on Lefkas (Meganisi is great anyway).

Charter a catamaran in Greece with or without skipper

Greece is the perfect destination to go island hopping with a catamaran. With several departure points, you'll have access to a wide inventory to hire a catamaran. Hire a catamaran for a day or a week in comfort with flexible cancellation.

Catamaran Hire in Greece

The Greek islands have always been a popular destination for both sailors and tourists alike. With tons of islands, amazing coastal towns and perfect beaches, it is easy to see why. Add in the historic archaeological sites and it becomes a dream destination for a catamaran charter.

Even though Greece has always been known for the amount of tourists, having a catamaran will allow you to see hidden spots and secluded beaches. With a shallow draft, you’ll be able to get as close as possible to uncrowded coves and beaches to find a sandy spot away from the crowds. Enjoy the comfort and stability of a catamaran as you island hop in Greece. You can also charter a sailboat in Greece.

How much does it cost to hire a catamaran in Greece?

On average, the standard price of catamarans in Greece is €487 per day with the average size being 12m long. If you are travelling with friends or family, catamarans are the ideal boat as they will offer enough space and comfort that you will need. Depending on where you hire the catamaran, the price will range from €200 to several thousand euros per day. Keep in mind that if you have no experience or qualifications, you will have to add on the cost of a skipper.

Do you need a license to hire a catamaran in Greece?

When renting a bareboat catamaran in Greece, you will need to hold a valid license as well as a detailed nautical CV. The nautical CV will detail your previous experience on a catamaran and the waters you have sailed. If you are new to sailing or do not hold a license, you can always hire a skippered catamaran in Greece. Most of the weekly charters have an option to hire with skipper so you can have a stress free vacation.

Areas to Sail in Greece with your catamaran hire

With the many islands, there are many avenues where you can possibly sail. The first thing to note is that the sailing season is pretty typical running from May to the end of September, sometimes into October if the weather allows it. With that said, this will be the pricier period to hire a boat in Greece with the peak season running from July to August.

One of the most popular departure points is from the port of Athens. From here, you can cruise your catamaran to the Saronic Gulf and island hop from there. Another beautiful port to start your charter is from Corfu which will allow you to sail in the middle of the Ionian Islands. A catamaran charter in Greece will surely top the holiday list.
