The most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) the city which began as a small fishing village is now one of the most technologically advanced cities, famous for tourism and luxury. Being based on the Persian Gulf coast, it is a major gateway and transport hub for trade and passengers, as well as a popular yachting destination due to the famous Palm Jumeirah and the large Dubai Marina.
To hire a boat in Dubai, it is very uncommon to find a sailboat, with motorboats costing on average £500 for the day, however, prices for the day can be as high as £10,000 due to the number of luxury yachts available and popular in the area. For a weeklong charter, boats will cost on average between £15,000 and £20,000. However, these prices are not guaranteed and can fluctuate based on several factors including the type of boat and time of year.
Dubai’s peak season is from November to April, as warm temperatures all year round make it a popular destination during the winter months. Therefore, prices will be higher, and crowds will be busier which means it is important to book in advance. The summer months, however, can be unbearable due to temperatures rising to as high as 40 degrees Celsius. You should also look out for the annual half-terms in February, May and October as many school children and families will visit during these times and demand and prices will increase. It is important to also note that in Dubai, a lot of the boats available are luxury yachts which cost a lot more than other boats.
To hire any type of boat in Dubai, from a superyacht to a jet ski, you will need a boat license or a skipper with a boat license on board. Depending on the type of boat you hire there are different licenses to obtain, with commercial licenses requiring further training such as first aid and sea survival. If you do not have a license but want to hire a boat, try hiring a boat with a skipper for a hands-free experience.
Dubai has become a world-renowned hub of luxury and tourism in recent years, so much so that people often forget it began as a quaint fishing village. As such, Dubai is still a destination in the nautical world, however instead of being an area for small sailboats to visit, it is instead popular among luxury superyacht owners. Due to the world-class marinas, such as Al Seef, Dubai Harbour and Dubai Marina, Dubai is an important area for luxury sailing. Fully equipped with high-end and exclusive equipment, Dubai is a great place to visit if you are looking for a once-in-a-lifetime yachting experience. The marinas are equipped with restaurants, free Wi-Fi, shopping destinations and complimentary shuttle services to make your travel day even easier.
A popular way to get around Dubai is water taxis or the Dubai ferry, which stops off at several neighbourhoods and can help you explore the Dubai coastline. One of the most popular places to visit in Dubai which can be accessed by water taxi is the Jumeirah Mosque, as it is open to non-Muslim visitors, and is crafted entirely from white stone. Another popular site to witness is the Dubai Fountain, which is scheduled to put on a water show every day and is completely free. This can be seen from the famous Dubai Mall, which is a must-visit location stocked with 1,200 shops, including an underwater zoo and aquarium. If that is not enough for you, visit the Mall of the Emirates instead, which is home to some incredible shops, as well as an indoor ski resort.
For water lovers, one of the most popular destinations in the world’s deepest pool is Deep Dive Dubai. Decorated as a sunken city, you can snorkel above or deep dive if you have a certification of up to 60 meters. Not only that but it is packed with 56 cameras and the ability to create different moods. For another unique experience, visit the Sky Views Dubai, where you can walk along the 25-meter glass-bottom podium, or if you are brave ride the outdoor glass slide.
If you are looking for a place to kick back and relax, Palm Islands is the place to go. The three artificial islands which are shaped like palm trees and lie on the coast of Dubai are home to some of the most incredible hotels and beaches you will ever experience. One such hotel in the area is the famous Atlantis, which is connected to the world’s largest waterpark, Aquaventure. This waterpark included the famous slides the Tower of Poseidon and the Leap of Faith which are world-renowned.
