Therefore, we highly advise you to visit Thailand between November and April in the dry season. In this period, the temperature is high, it’s sunny and also there are excellent conditions on the water for sailing. 

Keep in mind that there are some very popular islands such as Phuket where there is high demand for boat hire, so better to book your boat in advance. If you plan to hire a yacht we recommend booking a few months in advance, if it’s only for a day it is enough to book a few weeks before your holiday. 

Do I need a licence to hire a yacht in Thailand?

If you are renting a boat in Thailand, there are a few things that you should be careful about. In general, if you have a boating license issued by your country it is accepted in Thailand. Bear in mind that it still needs to be adapted to the size of the boat you rent. However, if you hire a bareboat in Thailand, you must have a Thai boating license, passport, visa, medical certificate and any other document that can prove your previous sailing experiences. 

If you don’t have the required documents or just don’t want to stress during the holiday it is better to hire a boat with a skipper. You can relax and leave the stress behind your back and also the skipper is a local who knows everything about the region.
