Portisco is a small village on the Italian Island of Sardinia, located on the Costa Smeralda. Known for its beaches, cuisine and atmosphere, Portisco is the perfect place to go if you are looking for an intimate Italian holiday in the sun, without the hassle of busy crowds or loud cities. With its unique culture and beautiful coastline and landscape, Portisco is a popular destination in Sardinia for sailors.
The average price of a sailboat for a day in Portisco is about £400, while a weeklong charter will average between £2500-£3000. However, these prices are not fixed and are subject to change due to several factors including the type of boat and time of year.
With motorboats not being very popular in Portisco, due to the idyllic sailing conditions, the majority of the boats hired are sailboats. A fairly sunny place, the temperatures during the summer months of July and August average 29 degrees Celsius, making the summer months the best-regarded time of year to visit, but also the busiest. Often filled with Italian families as well as international visitors, these months can be expensive and busy, with low availability for both boats and other activities you may want to do. June and September are regarded as some of the best months to visit, with crowds being much lower and yet temperatures still remain high and comfortable, with little expected rainfall. As Portisco is known to be a popular sailing destination, however, we do recommend that you book your boat quickly as availability even for the low season will go fast.
Portisco follows the rules of the rest of Italy in regard to licenses, which is that possession of a nautical license is required. However, there are a lot of boats available on the SamBoat website which offer skippers included in the boat if you would rather enjoy a hands-off charter.
Portisco is the perfect spot to explore if you are just looking for an escape for your next holiday. Its peaceful atmosphere is created by the host of beaches to which it is home, including Rena Bianca Beach and Capriccioli Beach which are popular swimming beaches among the locals, with Portisco beach being the most popular among tourists as well as the least quiet. The clear waters these beaches host also make it the perfect place to try your hand at water sports, including diving, snorkelling, and sailing. Several tours are offered in Portisco which offer excursions to try snorkelling and diving off the coast in some of the beautiful coves and bays nearby. Some popular destinations to visit include La Maddalena, as well as Tavolara Island, where not only can you explore the waters nearby but enjoy a day trip and learn more about the culture and cuisine.
If you would like to explore Portisco’s own culture, there are several historic sites to visit. The Nuraghe di Cabu Abbas is an ancient site which goes back to the Bronze Age and gives an interesting glance into the past. The nearby city of Olbia is home to many museums and historic sites which give insight into Sardinia’s history, including the Basilica of San Simplicio. Some other interesting day trips nearby include Porto Rotondo and Cervo, which are well-known cities in the nautical world due to their stunning marinas and luxury yachts. Porto Rotondo also holds an event called ‘Big Game’ in August, a deepwater fishing competition which is a very popular event for the town.
