Everything went smoothly, Matt was very responsive to any questions and the boat was in great condition
We had an afternoon charter for my daughter’s 21st. Matt was great at communicating & organising drinks etc for the day prior to us arriving. Everything was very well organised with crew offering us watermelon , pineapple & fresh fruit platter through the day. Thoroughly relaxing time. Boat was fantastic. Would definitely do again

Located in the Andaman Sea, Phuket is a lush, mountainous region that continues to be a top tourist destination. Being the largest Thai island, the choice of activities and beaches is endless. Its wonderful combination of culture and beauty truly makes it the epitome of a dream vacation. It only gets better for sailing, the location in which it is situated along the Equator lends the region to have a wonderful, balanced climate with winds on the mild side.
When hiring a yacht in Phuket, it is important to know when the high and low seasons are. Typically, we speak of high season for yacht hires, not of the weather that's more favourable. Due to the geographic location of Phuket, it is warm all year round and you can plan a vacation depending on what weather you prefer.
For yacht hires in Thailand, the most common period is from November to April. During this period, you'll have the best weather. The best sailing conditions will be from December to March which ensures no rain, calm seas and the perfect temperature. During this period, the prices for charters are a bit higher with an average of 500€ a day for a catamaran hire in Phuket and usually around 400€ for a sailboat in Thailand. In terms of a motorboat, as with most destinations, you will have a wider range depending on the size and the purpose of the boat. With the amount of diving and snorkelling to be done, you can hire a small motorboat, or you can hire a yacht for a more luxurious vacation.
To hire a yacht in Phuket, you will need to present your ICC to the base managers as well as the port authorities. In addition, you must fill out a nautical CV that describes your previous experience in regard to the previous boats you've captained and what waters you've sailed. If you are hiring a catamaran, you will have to show that you've handled a similar-sized boat in the past.
For motorboats, you will need to present a license as well. If you do not hold a license or if you want to better your skills, you can hire a yacht with a skipper who will guide you through the region. The great thing about hiring a boat with a skipper is that they are locals and have first-hand knowledge of the area, showcasing the hidden gems of the area.
No matter what your interests or budget are, Phuket will have several aspects that will be sure to please you and will make you never want to leave. To truly have a sense of the local culture, there are plenty of places you’ll need to visit. Among these are the numerous amounts of markets. Locals live by these markets and once you’re there, you’ll immediately know why. Our first recommendation is the Phuket Weekend Market where you’ll be able to buy everything imaginable while sampling the best food the region has to offer. Similar to this, head to Old Phuket town and mix with the local environment.
Aside from the great sailing conditions, Phuket is an ideal place to hire a boat due to its surroundings. Situated between countless islands, having a boat will provide a sense of exploration that is not easily achievable. Sail through the turquoise waters to Phang Nga Bay for a magical day trip or head north to the islands of Similan and Surin for a more exotic destination. Renting a boat will give you quick access to the other islands while letting you discover hidden gems along the way. If you find yourself looking for destinations similar to Phuket, sailing to Samui and Koh Chang is always a great alternative. You will find a similar climate with a completely different landscape.
At SamBoat, we offer several types of boats for hire in Phuket; motorboats, sailboats, RIBs, catamarans, and luxury yachts. Choose a boat with or without a skipper and take advantage of what Phuket can offer.
A good idea is to hire a boat in Krabi and create an itinerary to sail to Pattaya and then get to Phuket.
