Excellent rental company- would highly recommend
The Charter company is highly recommended: everything corresponds to the description, and they provide full documentation-information before departure (not only the owner's manual and many other detailed instructions and checklists, but even their own online pilot book).
Lefkada is one of the Greek islands in the Ionian Sea. You will find it to the south of Corfu and to the north of Kefalonia. If you are hiring a boat in Greece Lefkada is one of the islands to use as a starting point for your boating holiday. It has an extensive and well-maintained road network and a very well-organised port that is fully equipped for touristic boat traffic. The Ionian Islands are a group of seven islands located west of mainland Greece. In Greek, the group of islands is called Heptanisa, which means seven islands. The archipelago consists of Corfu, Lefkas, Ithaka, Kefalonia, Paxi, Zakynthos and Kythira. Hire your sailboat or motorboat in Lefkada via SamBoat. The ideal base for your boating holiday on the Ionian Sea.
To hire a sailboat in Lefkada, prices average around £300, with motorboats slightly less at around £200. For a weeklong charter, sailboats are more expensive, averaging £4000 for the week, while motorboats average around £2000, as they are less in demand. However, these prices are not guaranteed and can fluctuate based on several factors including the type of boat and time of year.
Your boating holiday on the Ionian Sea and especially your departure from Lefkada offers you many advantages. To start with, Lefkada is easily accessible. By plane, ferry or car, from all over Europe you can be there in no time. Although the island itself is a major tourist attraction, with a very large fleet of rental boats and therefore a lot of tourism, there are still many quiet and unspoilt places to be found once you have left Lefkada and are on your way. So you have the advantage of a large choice of sailing and motorboats, but you can still really go on a voyage of discovery.
From there you will visit the following ports: Petriti-Corfu, Lakka-Paxos, Gaios-Paxos, Nidri-Lefkas, Vliko-Lefkas, Sivota-Lefkas, Vathi-Meganisi, Spiglia-Meganisi, Vathi-Ithaka, Kioni-Ithaka, Assos-Kefalonia, Fiskardo-Kefalonia and Zante. You can also be adventurous and hire a boat from Zakynthos and make your way to Lefkada.
Even out of season, most of these harbours are perfect for a delicious meal and provisions. Diesel for the boat and water, vegetables, meat and fish are generally readily available.
Lefkada follows the same regulations as the rest of Greece, and so depending on what type of boat you would like to hire, there are different pieces of legislation for each. If you are looking to hire a motorboat, a license is required if the boat has more than 30hp, if less, no license is needed. If would like to charter a yacht, you will need a valid license as well as a nautical CV detailing the previous boats you captained as well as the different waters you navigated.
If you are new to sailing or do not hold a license, you don't have to hire a bareboat. Most of the boats in Greece are available with skippers so this would be a perfect option for you.
Lefkada is one of the most popular islands in the Ionian Sea, in large part due to its location being the nearest one to the western side of the mainland, while also being easily accessible and close to other islands. While the location is incredible and makes Lefkada a great hub for travel around Greece, the atmosphere in Lefkada is brilliant and is filled with attractions and places to explore.
The natural beauty of Lefkada is one of its major draw-ins, with the waterfalls of Nydri being a gorgeous and breathtaking swimming area, and the sea lakes of Divari and Ivaria supporting a unique ecology and being just minutes away from the main town. The surroundings are all about enjoyment. The green hills of the islands, the view of the mountains of the mainland, you sail through beautiful lagoons and you regularly see the most beautiful castles on the coast. You will be part of a postcard! Some other natural beauty can be seen on the beaches, which have been known to be some of the best in Greece, there are many beaches to choose from, from the popular and beautiful Porto Katsiki to the secluded and green Agios Nikitas Beach.
The island is also rich in history and culture, which can be seen in the man-made attractions and landmarks scattered around the island. If you want to see some more of the history of Lefkada in real life, visit the Castle of Agia Mavra, which dates back to medieval times, or maybe the most important monastery of Lefkada, the Monastery of Faneromeni. The island is also filled with museums, from the archaeological museum to the unique museum of phonographs or the Museum of Lefkadian Embroidery. Lefkada is filled with places to explore and things to learn, however, there are also some amazing attractions so you can relax on your holiday, such as the incredible food and drinks offered in the taverns, or the watersports available at the majority of beaches.
