The whole process was very smooth and easy. Jocelyne's daughter was great at sorting out our paper work and making sure we knew where we were going. We had a great morning out on the boat - would definitely recommend getting the morning slot if you can, as when we arrived back in the afternoon there was a huge queue for people picking up their boats.

If you plan multiple stops and visiting le Iles Lerins, I recommend to go there first thing in the morning to have plenty of space and a good ankering spot. It gets very crowded around midday, especially on the weekends. the other stops like Baie de billionere, etc are good all day long. Bring snorkling gear, plenty of water, sunscreen and a long sleeve shirt. Be sure to know the speed limits around cap d'antibes, Iles Lerins and Cannes which a regularly enforced and heavily fined. Additionally there is a general speed limit of 5 knots on the 300m to shore zone, and 3 (!) knots in harbours. Have fun :-)

Renting a Boat in Antibes

Antibes is an irresistible tourist attraction throughout the year, but mostly between April and October. The climate of Antibes lends itself to being the perfect destination for sailors across the globe. Nature has been too kind to Antibes, France and it has bestowed the tourist attraction with the best features and weather conditions for sailing. The town witnesses a few stormy days and rainy days in the latter half of the year, but Antibes guarantees plenty of stunning sunny days during the seven months of its tourist season.

If you’re planning on sailing and looking for calmer conditions, the months of July and August are the best. You’ll see more white than blue off the coast of Antibes. June and September – months on either side of the peak season – offer an equally gorgeous scenic setting for tourists to enjoy. In addition, the town and waters are less populated and the prices are relatively cheaper.

How much does it cost to hire a boat in Antibes?

The average price per day of renting a boat naturally depends on the boats you like and the season you are planning to go. If you're looking for a smaller RIB, then the average price would be lower than 200€/day. On the other hand, catamarans and sailboats are available on average at 400€/day and if you're looking for luxury yachts, there is no limit. Both options have the possibility to hire a bareboat or a skipper. There are plenty of benefits of a local skipper, such as less stress and their knowledge of the local area. Let yourself be amazed by the wonderful hidden beauties of the area and the less touristic secret places that you would normally never have the chance to see.

If you prefer to avoid the crowd, you can hire a boat in spring or autumn when the weather is still good, but the majority of the tourists are left. It’s no surprise that the prices are the highest during the peak months when the demand is high and you will find better prices outside that period.

Boat availability in Antibes

Due to the high demand in the area, we highly recommend planning in advance to avoid any last-minute disappointments. Take no chances, browse all the available in Antibes well in advance, say 6 months prior to your holiday.

Whether you’re planning to say for a day, week, or month in Antibes you’ll have no trouble finding a yacht hire that suits your purpose. The resort town of Antibes is home to a wide variety of boats, ranging from small RIBs, sailboats, and catamarans, to motor boats and yachts.

There are several factors that determine the boat you rent. A RIB boat is enough for a solo traveller who is not going to venture too far into the sea. A motorboat, catamaran, or sailboat will do just fine for a small touring party. A yacht hire in Antibes, if budget isn’t a factor, and you want to explore the French Riviera in style and luxury.

All these boats come in all shapes and sizes so that you could pick the one that best serves your individual needs.

Do I need a licence to hire a boat in Antibes?

If you are renting a sailboat or a catamaran in Antibes there is no need to have a valid boating license. However, you still asked to show your nautical CV with the previous experience you have and the waters you’ve sailed. However, if you hire a motor boat, a coastal license is mandatory to have for boats with a power greater than 6hp.

Don’t worry too much if you don’t have the necessary documents, in Antibes, there is an option to hire a boat with a skipper. No matter if you have previous experience or just don’t want to stress over controlling a boat, a skipper is the way to go. An added advantage of renting a boat with a skipper is their knowledge of the local areas. Since most skippers are local, they will be able to show you the hidden gems of the area.

Overview of Antibes

Antibes is the perfect place to hire a boat on the French Riviera snuggled between Nice and Cannes in France. Famous for its luxurious and relaxing beaches, Antibes can be home to those who are looking for a calm and traditional environment. The town offers vintage, yet beautiful markets and cafes which can be your refuge while resting, as the main transport for travelling within the city is walking. There are plenty of old ice cream parlours, boutiques, and bars and the ever-present abundance of delicious, mouthwatering food from passing carts.

One of the primary attractions of Antibes is that it houses one of the most famous painters to ever walk on earth, Pablo Picasso. Antibes is the go-to for all aspiring painters and loyal fans of the great painter, who come from differing countries and from all walks of life to witness first-hand the streets that Picasso walked through and the scandals left behind.

Picasso has left such a huge footprint behind in Antibes, that the castle which Picasso used as his art studio has been transformed into the first art museum dedicated to the ingenious painter. It holds 245 of Picasso’s paintings and sculptures collected from throughout the world. Picasso’s tower rises high above all the villas and castles, acting as a beacon for all ambitious artists. Antibes’ glamorous vibe attracts famous personalities from all around, belonging to differing genres of art including Scott Fitzgerald, Charlie Chaplin, and Marlene Dietrich.

Another renowned attraction of Antibes is its noon summer markets. Though the markets are set throughout the year, during summer, in the afternoon, a special artisan show is arranged, where all the aspiring and novice painters, sculptors, and ceramicists show their work, hoping to be like the man who lived right in those streets centuries ago.

Antibes is a perfect holiday destination as it has plenty to offer to tourists who visit there. If you are not too much into art and history, then Antibes is still the place for you and will not disappoint. Beyond the bustling town life, cafes, noon markets, and boutiques, there are a few hidden gems of nature in the form of beautiful and luxurious sandy beaches. The coast of Antibes houses the beaches of the handsome Antibes, itself, Cap d’Antibes, and neighbouring Juan-les-Pins. Once, long ago, the same beach was littered with Greek trading boats, now it houses some of the most amazing, expensive, and luxurious yachts, along with a few small fishing boats as well. The humble Mediterranean resort is known for its multi-million dollar mega yacht line. The best part is that because of boat hires in Antibes, you can also take a trip on these luxurious yachts. A good idea is to hire a boat in Frejus and enjoy the sea.

There are a number of water sports options available. From canoeing/kayaking to diving and snorkelling, from fly-boarding to jet-skiing, they have it all. When you are in the town of Antibes, you can also hire your boat to Monaco and witness its glitz and glamour. Cannes is renowned for housing the legendary Cannes Film Festival. On the other hand, you can take your boat hire to Nice and explore this beautiful city.

For those who are fond of fishing, off the coast, there are a few excellent deep-sea fishing spots that would keep you occupied for hours. The waters in this part of the sea are populated by sea bream, swordfish, marlin, and tuna; expect the fish here to lure you with hope, toy with the line, and put up a really tough fight before giving in. All in all, you’ll have a wonderful time fishing in these deep waters.
